The Moroney Family of Caherrush, Miltown Malbay, County Clare, Ireland: MORONEY GRAVES AROUND THE WORLD.

My Great Grandfather, Thomas Moroney died 8 May 1927 and was buried in Ballard Graveyard just a mile East of the Village of Miltown Malbay on the Ballard Road. In late 1929 Thomas's widow, Catherine Conole Moroney inherited money from her brother, Patrick "Paddy" Conole who died in Buffalo, NY USA. Paddy was run over by a car in Buffalo, NY.

Catherine erected a gravestone for her husband in 1929 and sent a picture back to her children in Buffalo, NY. This picture was found in the possession of Patrick Wright a son of grandson of Anne Moroney Neylan in Lansing, MI. Pat sent me a copy in the early 1990's and when one of my cousin, Mike O'Brien's daughter, Kelli O'Brien went to Ireland on her honeymoon in 1992 she searched the Ballard graveyard with the picture and located the stone.

In 1998 I visited Ireland and went to the Ballard Graveyard to see the marker of my great grandfather, Thomas Moroney. There I met the graveyard caretaker, Johnny O'Connell of Ballard Road. We had a long talk and he did not know Tom Moroney but he did know his brother-in-law, Neddy Conole of Illaunbawn. Johnny would cut turf on the Conole land in Illaunbaun. After our meeting I noted Johnny's address and a few years, I hired Johnny to fix up the grave for me. I had a Moroney Family reunion scheduled in August 2002 and I wanted it to look good for my cousins and family.
